The Minister of Digital Transformation: Plan to Expand 4G Coverage to 200 Villages Using Modern Technologies to Support Rural Connectivity

His Excellency Eng. Ahmed Dardiri Ghandour, Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, revealed the Ministry’s plan to expand fourth-generation (4G) mobile services to approximately 200 villages across various states of Sudan during 2026. The initiative comes as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen digital connectivity and reduce the digital divide between urban and rural areas.

His Excellency explained that during his participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, he reviewed the latest global technologies designed to expand network coverage in remote areas, including low-cost, rapidly deployable towers and alternative energy systems.

He noted that these technological solutions will help accelerate the implementation of the 200-village connectivity project and open the door for future expansion to additional areas, supporting economic and social development while enhancing rural communities’ access to digital services.

The Minister emphasized that expanding telecommunications infrastructure represents a fundamental step toward empowering citizens, improving quality of life, and building a more inclusive digital economy in Sudan.
